Douglas Nasrawi was born in Modesto, California, in 1959, and began his studies in San Francisco. He gradueted in vocal studies from the University of San Diego. In 1982 he moved to Paris, and frequently appears with the leading Paris-based groups Les Arts Florissants, A Sei Voci and the Groupe Vocal de France. He has sung both early and contemporary music in opera and concerts throughout Europe with conductors such as John Eliot Gardiner, William Christie, Pierre Boulez, George Prêtre, Gary Bertini, Kent Nagano and Jeffrey Tate. This breadth of sympathies is reflected in the recording of Songs of Love and Death - Monteverdi, Frank Martin, Harvey Brough and John Paul Jones - which he has just made with the vocal group Red Byrd, to be released on the Factory Classical Label at the end of October.
