  Kate Brown studied English at Oxford and music in Austria before becoming a director. She has worked principally for Glyndebourne, working as staff and revival director. She won the Carl Ebert Award for her work on Death in Venice there earlier this year. She has also worked for the Royal Opera House, Opera North and Scottish Opera; and in Switzerland with David Freeman and Opera Factory Zürich. Her own productions include Monteverdi's Orfeo, Purcell's Dido and Aeneas, Blow's Venus and Adonis, and the 1912 version of Strauss's Ariadne auf Naxos; Ruddigore, L'Elisir d'Amore, and Die Fledermaus; Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream performed with Mendelssohn's complete incidental music, and 17th-century court masques performed with authentic instruments, acting and dancing for the Henley Festival; and an evening of 17th century court and streey entertainment for the Royal Academy of Arts at the Queen's House in Greenwich. Further plans for 1990 include returning to Glyndebourne to work on Fidelio.
