Il Ballarino is composed of professional dancers who specialize in the technic and style of early dances, according to instructions in the early dance manuals. Founded in 1983 under the artistic direction of Andrea Francalanci, Il Ballarino has participated in many festivals and theatrical productions in Italy and abroad, and taken part in operas by Monteverdi, Peri, Cavalieri, Gagliano, Stradella and Cavalli. In May Il Ballarino joined the Scottish Early Music Consort in their performances of the 'Feast of the Pheasant' in collaboration with Scottish dancers Rosina Bonsu and Mary Niblett. This has already led to further professional performances of early dance in Scotland.
